Just-in-Time Beds

Federal, state and county correctional facilities are increasingly faced with the dangers of prison overcrowding. There is no question that overfilled prisons, jails and detention facilities are a threat, not only to staff and inmates, but also to the community.

No prison should have so many inmates that the staff become overworked, distracted and stressed. No correctional facility should have too many inmates in each cell, too few resources, or too little space for classes or recreational activities. Overcrowding creates an environment that makes inmates restless and disgruntled.

With just-in-time beds, CCA provides a relief valve to this serious, growing problem.

Government correctional partners are increasingly utilizing CCA’s “just-in-time,” or immediate, bed space for varied reasons. including: These rapid, responsive residencies provide:

  • Temporary beds while space is being developed in local, state or federal systems;
  • Immediate beds in the event of an emergency;
  • Long-term beds for ongoing correctional management;

Short- or long-term use to comply with capacity ratios outlined in policy. Just as the reasons for needing beds just in time are many, CCA is continuously working to provide beds for this ongoing demand. With new facilities and expansions under development, CCA’s available inventory offers flexible service to government partners.

Just-in-time beds provide an immediate solution for ever-changing inmate populations, without pre-planning or advance budgeting of capital dollars, based on projections of inmate populations several years beforehand. Whether in the midst of a natural disaster or while public agencies complete their own projects or expansions, CCA's just-in-time beds are a reliable and proven correctional solution.
